KURSK, December 20. /TASS/. The Ukrainian armed forces have launched a missile attack on the town of Rylsk in Russia's Kursk Region, according to the region's acting governor, Alexander Khinshtein.

The Russian Investigative Committee has reported casualties.

Circumstances of the shelling

- All emergency response services are working at the site of the strike.

- Acting Chairman of the Kursk Region government Alexey Dedov has been dispatched to the city, Khinstein reported.

- The House of Culture building has been heavily damaged. The city's 18th-century cathedral also sustained significant damage.

- The Kursk Nuclear Power Plant, located in Kurchatov, 70 kilometers from Rylsk, is operating normally, according to a report on its Telegram channel.

- A blast wave damaged windows at the Church of the Ascension of the Lord. No casualties occurred, a church employee told TASS.

Dead and injured

- Preliminary reports indicate casualties, with both dead and injured, the Russian Investigative Committee says.

Reaction of the government

- Khinstein stated that the government of the Kursk Region will offer all necessary assistance to the victims and their families.

- He also claimed that Ukraine intentionally targets civilian and social infrastructure.
