DUBAI, November 27. /TASS/. The United States, which has all capabilities to resolve the conflict in the Middle East, skimps on its duties as a global power, because it is not interested in the settlement, Russian Security Council Deputy Chairman Dmitry Medvedev said in an interview with Al Arabiya.
"The Middle East is another current hotspot on the planet, which has appeared a long time ago, and, unfortunately, where no opening has been visible for decades," Medvedev noted. "The states that can actually affect this conflict, unfortunately, skim on their duties."
"I mean, of course, first and foremost, the United States, which, in my opinion, is not interested in the resolution of this conflict, and instead interested in maintaining it at a controllable level," the official said. "This is exactly why it does not interfere in what is happening now."
According to Medvedev, the situation in the region, related to the Palestinian-Israeli conflict, is very difficult, "a tragedy is happening."
Meanwhile, he pointed out, Russia’s position remains unchanged: "We have always advocated a strict and full implementation of the main UN conventions, the 1947 conventions and a number of following conventions on the establishment of the two states and their peaceful coexistence.".
