Russia gets regional FAO conference moved from Chisinau to Rome — MFA

Maria Zakharova recalled that equal participation is the basis for a full-fledged, non-politicized dialogue with regard to providing food security to Europe and Central Asia

MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/, Russia has succeeded in moving the venue of the 34th session of the UN Food and Agriculture Organization (FAO) Regional Conference for Europe from Chisinau to Rome amid Moldova’s non-admission of the Russian delegation, Russian Foreign Ministry Spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said at a briefing.

"Thanks to coordinated efforts from the Russian Foreign Ministry, the Russian Embassy in Chisinau and the Russian permanent representative in FAO, our country managed to get the venue for the 34th session of the FAO Regional Conference for Europe changed. The session is scheduled for May 14-17, [we managed to get it relocated] from Chisinau to the organization’s (FAO - TASS) headquarters in Rome," she said.

"On March 19, the Moldovan authorities declared their refusal to let the Russian delegation enter the country to take part in the event, suggesting to attend at the embassy level or remotely," she added.

Zakharova recalled that equal participation is the basis for a full-fledged, non-politicized dialogue with regard to providing food security to Europe and Central Asia. "As a result of overcoming its powers as a host country and vigilante behavior of the Moldovan authorities, Chisinau suffered not only politically, but also financially," she noted.

West’s influence

Zakharova emphasized that Russia is the major food supplier to the whole world.

"We do it on a commercial basis as well, but we do it, including within our humanitarian supplies, both through the UN and other international organizations, and helping countries individually," she added.

"This is who [Moldovan President Maia] Sandu decided to prohibit from entering and participating in the work of the food organization, a major supplier around the world? For what? In order to once again worsen the food security situation, provoked by her Western patrons? What Western proteges with Romanian passports are currently doing in Chisinau is just an obvious world-scale diversion," the diplomat pointed out. "They are not acting against us, we are capable of protecting our interests. No, Sandu, as well as all these regimes, that have been brought by Westerners and exist thanks to Western money only and only considering the political intention of the Western regimes, are jeopardizing the world security in its various displays," she added.
