DUBAI, April 2. /TASS/. The Russian embassy in Tehran has condemned Israeli’s airstrike on Monday on the Iranian consulate as the grossest violation of the norms of international law.
The attack "is not only the grossest violation of all norms of international law, including the Vienna Conventions that guarantee the immunity of diplomatic and consular facilities, but it may also lead to further escalation in the Middle East that could produce unpredictable consequences," the embassy said in a statement on its Telegram channel.
The Russian embassy said it was "shocked and outraged by the Israeli strike on the consulate of the Islamic Republic of Iran in Damascus which left several people dead and caused damage to the building." The Russian diplomats expressed their "deep condolences to the families and friends of those killed," and extended wishes for a speedy recovery to those injured.
The Syrian Arab News Agency (SANA) reported on April 1 that the Israeli military had carried out an airstrike on a building in the Syrian capital of Damascus. Later on Monday, Iranian media said that the building of the Iranian consulate in the Mezzeh municipality in northwestern Damascus was attacked.
Iran’s Islamic Revolutionary Guard Corps or IRGC (the elite units of the Iranian Armed Forces - TASS) reported the death of seven military advisers, including General Mohammad Reza Zahedi and General Mohammad Hadi Haji Rahimi, in the attack.
