West comes up with tall tales about 'Russian barbarians,' top security official says

Nikolay Patrushev drew an analogy with Latin America, calling it one of the longest-suffering regions of the world

MANAGUA /Nicaragua/, February 28. /TASS/. The West came up with tall tales about the "Russian barbarians" using an old template in order to discredit an entire nation, and then believed in those tales itself, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev said in an interview for Rossiyskaya Gazeta.

"The West uses the tactics of lies against Russia as well. Using a centuries-old template, they come up with fables about a Russian barbarity, and then they believe in these tales themselves," he noted.

Patrushev drew an analogy with Latin America, calling it one of the longest-suffering regions of the world. He noted that the Spanish, the Portuguese, the Dutch, the British viewed these territories only as a source of profit, they enslaved the local population, exterminated entire peoples and their cultural values.

"Remember how Catholic missionaries burned the unique manuscripts of the Inca and other peoples, and instead composed false tales about bloodthirsty and ungodly barbarians," the official said.
