Russia to help Latin America protect itself against US interference — security official

Nikolay Patrushev noted that Latin American countries are quite familiar with the US’ aggressive methods on forceful destruction of undesirable governments, political and economic pressure on countries with independent policy

MANAGUA /Nicaragua/, February 27. /TASS/. Moscow will continue helping Latin American states defend themselves against Washington’s attempt to interfere in their internal affairs, including by undermining the local authorities, Russian Security Council Secretary Nikolay Patrushev said in his opening address to the security consultations with representatives of Bolivia, Venezuela, Cuba and Nicaragua.

He noted that Latin American countries are quite familiar with the US’ aggressive methods on forceful destruction of undesirable governments, political and economic pressure on countries with independent policy.

"Latin America remains an important zone of peace, a sort of island of stability. Meanwhile, it is important for us that more and more regional countries seek to carry out an independent policy. In this regard, Moscow will continue, within the framework of all available capabilities, facilitate the work on prevention of interference in internal affairs of your countries, campaigns on discrediting their legitimate authorities, intimidation of the people and destabilization of the economy," Patrushev said.
