Confrontation with West over Ukraine to ease when troops come close to EU — diplomat

According to Konstantin Gavrilov, then there will follow "serious agreements on checks, balances, guarantees, confidence-building measures and so on"

MOSCOW, February 20. /TASS/. The West's tone regarding the conflict over Ukraine will ease when the hostilities come close to areas bordering the European Union, Konstantin Gavrilov, the head of the Russian delegation to the Vienna talks on military security and arms control, said on the Rossiya-24 TV channel.

"The rhetoric will be toned down when troops will come close to the borders of Poland, Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and so on. The tone will be completely different," Gavrilov said when asked about the reaction of Russia's European opponents to the advance of Russian troops to Ukraine's western borders.

According to Gavrilov, then there will follow "serious agreements on checks, balances, guarantees, confidence-building measures and so on.".
