German Foreign Ministry summons Russian ambassador

The Russian embassy confirmed that Russian Ambassador to Berlin Sergey Nechayev had been summoned to the German Foreign Ministry

BERLIN, February 19. /TASS/. The German Foreign Ministry has summoned Russian Ambassador to Berlin Sergey Nechayev, a ministry spokeswoman told reporters.

"The foreign minister commented again on the death of Alexey Navalny before the meeting in Brussels. And I would like to inform you that the federal government, the Foreign Ministry, is summoning the Russian ambassador today," the spokeswoman said at a news conference.

The Russian Embassy in Germany has confirmed to TASS that Russian Ambassador to Berlin Sergey Nechayev was summoned to the German Foreign Ministry.

"We can confirm that the Russian ambassador was summoned to the German Foreign Ministry today," the embassy said.

The Federal Penitentiary Service’s Directorate for the Yamalo-Nenets Autonomous Region said on February 16 that Navalny had died in a penal colony. According to the agency, Navalny felt sick after a walk and fainted. Doctors arrived immediately but their more than 30-minute resuscitation efforts failed. Kremlin Spokesman Dmitry Peskov slammed the West’s statements concerning Navalny’s death as rabid and totally inadmissible, given that there is no official information about the cause of his death.
