Civic Initiative party’s presidential hopeful submits papers to Russian election authority

To date, over 30 people have been nominated as presidential candidates

MOSCOW, December 26. /TASS/. Moscow region lawmaker Boris Nadezhdin has submitted the necessary paperwork to Russia’s Central Election Commission (CEC) to run for president as a candidate for the Civic Initiative party, a TASS correspondent reported.

Nadezhdin arrived at the CEC office in downtown Moscow to submit the paperwork.

On December 23, the Seventh Congress of the Civic Initiative party nominated Nadezhdin as the party’s candidate for the upcoming Russian presidential election. The party is not represented in the State Duma (the lower house of parliament), so in order to be registered as a presidential candidate, Nadezhdin will have to collect at least 100,000 voter signatures.

To date, over 30 people have been nominated as presidential candidates.

The upper house Federation Council formally designated March 17, 2024 as the date of the presidential election. In turn, the Russian Central Election Commission decided that citizens would be able to cast their ballots during a three-day voting period on March 15-17, making this Russia’s first three-day presidential election.
