Russia calls for restart of talks on establishment of Palestinian state — Lavrov

The Russian foreign minister underscored that the developed collective diplomatic mechanism would be necessary in addition to the efforts being made for resolution of the most pressing humanitarian issues in the conflict area

MOSCOW, November 21. /TASS/. Russia calls to immediately restart the negotiations process on establishment of the Palestinian state, Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov said during the meeting with foreign ministers of the Arab League and the Organization of Islamic Cooperation (OIC).

"I would like to underscore once again: it is necessary not only to lose issues of strategic nature out of sight, but to begin working on creating preconditions for their resolution - I mean, first and foremost, the preparation for a restart of the peace process upon the internationally recognized basis, approved within the UN, within the 2002 Arab Peace Initiative, proposed by the King of Saudi Arabia, which was endorsed by all Arab League states and all OIC member states, and which implies the establishment of an independent, whole, sovereign Palestinian state within the 1967 borders and with capital in East Jerusalem," the Minister said.

He underscored that the establishment of a collective diplomatic mechanism would be necessary in addition to the efforts being made for resolution of the most pressing humanitarian issues in the conflict area.

"We are certain that regional states, Arab states, other Islamic states must play an important role in this mechanism," Lavrov added.
