DONETSK, July 31. /TASS/. The fiercest battles between Russian and Ukrainian troops have been raging in the Ulgedar area over the past few days, acting DPR (Donetsk People’s Republic) Head Denis Pushilin said in a live broadcast on the Rossiya-24 TV Channel on Monday.

"The Ugledar direction is a hotspot. I would say that the fiercest armed clashes have been going on there in the past few days," he said.

The acting DPR head said last week that the frontline situation in the region was tense but under the Russian troop control. He said that the Ukrainian military daily made at least five attempts to break through Russian defenses in the Ugledar direction but suffered losses among personnel and military hardware and had to retreat.
