Ukraine shows West’s insincerity about ensuring arms control — Russia’s UN envoy

Vasily Nebenzya said that Russia has repeatedly pointed to the consequences of funneling weapons into Ukraine

UNITED NATIONS, April 10. /TASS/. The crisis in Ukraine has shown the disingenuousness of Western countries to ensure arms control, Russia’s envoy to the UN Vasily Nebenzya said at a UN Security Council meeting on Monday.

"Western countries have consistently promoted the concept of ‘responsible behavior’ and increased control over the circulation of weapons. However, the crisis that has been provoked by them in Ukraine has become a true show of the insincerity of their statements in support of international efforts to combat uncontrolled proliferation," he said at the UNSC meeting about the risks posed by violating agreements on the supply of military products.

Nebenzya said that Russia has repeatedly pointed to the consequences of funneling weapons into Ukraine.

"We note that regardless of the approaches of certain countries to what is happening in Ukraine, these risks are quite real and applicable to any other region," he added.

However, Nebenzya said that the military-industrial complex of Western countries is interested in supplying weapons to conflict zones. "Another not so obvious, but extremely serious risk of their irresponsible approach to the issue of the supply of military products is the kinship between the military-industrial complex and national governments," he continued. "Consequently, the military-industrial complex of Western countries is not at all interested in ending conflicts, and their governments take a similar position.".
