Job creation most effective for demographic support — Putin

The President also showed interest in the implementation of the Zvezda shipyard construction project

MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/. Creating new jobs and developing the economy is the most effective way to support positive demographic trends in the country, Russian President Vladimir Putin said on Monday at a meeting with Oleg Kozhemyako, the Governor of the Primorsky Region.

The governor, reporting on regional housing construction figures, noted that this is the most effective method to stimulate the birth rate. "The best way is to create new jobs and develop the economy; [and] investment projects," the Russian leader said.

Putin also showed interest in the implementation of the Zvezda shipyard construction project. "If such high-tech production facilities are being created and developed, then qualified specialists are required. They actually come there from all over the country," he said.

A new modern port in Sukhodol with a freight turnover of 20 mln metric tons is expected to start operations in September, the governor informed. "Twenty million metric tons is actually a decent figure," Putin replied.

Construction of ports provides for "a strong turn to the East," the head of the region said. "This creates conditions for development of the Russian Far East," the President noted in his turn.
