Russian consulate general in Afghanistan’s Mazar-i-Sharif up and running — diplomat

Zamir Kabulov told TASS in July 2021 that the consulate general in Mazar-i-Sharif had suspended its work amid rising tensions in northern Afghanistan

MOSCOW, April 3. /TASS/. Russia’s consulate general in Afghanistan’s Mazar-i-Sharif is already operating, Russian presidential envoy for Afghanistan and director of the Russian foreign ministry’s second Asia department, Zamir Kabulov, told TASS on Monday.

Earlier, Alexey Pereverzev was appointed Russian consul general in Mazar-i-Sharif.

Kabulov told TASS in July 2021 that the consulate general in Mazar-i-Sharif had suspended its work amid rising tensions in northern Afghanistan. Russian diplomats were evacuated. In January 2022, Kabulov told TASS that the issue of reopening the Russian consulate general in that city required thorough analysis, especially from a security standpoint. In November, he told TASS that an advance team had examined the consulate’s building.
