Russian forces push forward towards Maryinka in Donbass, says DPR head

The seizure of Maryinka will open the way for Krasnogorovka from where Ukrainian troops have been shelling Donetsk

MOSCOW, February 27. /TASS/. The liberation of Maryinka in Donbass proceeds in a more complex way than it was expected but Russian forces have made certain gains, acting Head of the Donetsk People’s Republic (DPR) Denis Pushilin said on Monday.

"As for Maryinka, we see improvements and our units are moving forward. Such stiff resistance by the enemy [there] has, of course, stalled the expectations, considering that it is redeploying reserves to the area. We expected to liberate Maryinka much sooner," he said in a live broadcast on the Rossiya-24 television channel.

The town of Maryinka is located west of Donetsk. Pushilin earlier said that Ukrainian troops were putting up fierce resistance in that area. The remnants of the Ukrainian battlegroup have entrenched themselves in the residential sector on the town’s outskirts while all the high-rise buildings are under the Russian army’s control.

The seizure of Maryinka will open the way for Krasnogorovka from where Ukrainian troops have been shelling Donetsk.
