Lavrov, Wang did not discuss some ‘Chinese plan’ for Ukraine — Russian MFA

"The Chinese partners briefed us on their views on the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, as well as approaches to its political settlement. There was no discussion of any special 'plan'," Maria Zakharova said

MOSCOW, February 22. /TASS/. Russian Foreign Minister Sergey Lavrov and the Director of the Office of the Central Foreign Affairs Commission of the Chinese Communist Party (CCP), member of the CCP Politburo Wang Yi did not discuss some "Chinese peace plan" for resolving the conflict over Ukraine at their meeting on Wednesday, Russian Foreign Ministry spokeswoman Maria Zakharova said in a commentary.

"We paid attention to statements by some Western politicians and media reports regarding some ‘Chinese peace plan.’ As usual, they distort the real picture. It is true Ukraine featured prominently on the agenda of the Lavrov-Wang talks. The Chinese partners briefed us on their views on the root causes of the Ukrainian crisis, as well as approaches to its political settlement. There was no discussion of any special 'plan'," Zakharova said.

Russia welcomes Beijing's constructive role in resolving "burning international issues." She stressed that Russia and China adhered to similar points of view on the current situation.

Settlement problems

Lavrov briefed Wang on the situation surrounding the peace settlement of the Ukrainian crisis. Zakharova said stressed that some points of Ukrainian President Vladimir Zelensky’s "peace formula" were impossible to discuss.

"[Vladimir Zelensky] began to put forward ultimatums disguised as peace initiatives. Of course, under such conditions, a conversation is impossible," she said.

So far, all peace-making ideas have been shattered by the US wish to weaken Russia and then to focus on containing China.

"All peacekeeping ideas and plans are being ruined by Washington's determination to continue the war with Russia until the "last Ukrainian" in order to weaken, and ideally decapitate and dismember our country and put it under control. And then to focus on containing China, which the West openly declares as its main "strategic challenge," Zakharova concluded.
