BANGKOK, February 10. /TASS/. The Western countries are putting serious pressure on Thailand, as Bangkok has not joined the sanctions against Russia, Russia’s ambassador to Thailand Yevgeny Tomikhin told TASS on the occasion of Diplomatic Worker's Day, which is celebrated on Friday.
"As you know, the countries that have not joined the Western sanctions against Russia are under very serious pressure from the Western states," he stressed. "This is seen in all spheres, including cultural, humanitarian, transport and banking relations."
"Many Thai colleagues have been openly telling us that they are under very serious pressure from the Western countries and their diplomatic missions," Tomikhin said. "Western diplomats do not hesitate to go to various government offices and non-governmental organizations to openly call for joining the sanctions, introducing all kinds of restrictions, and also for being more reserved and for refraining from encouraging relations and cooperation."
"Lately, we were able to feel that the Thai friends proceed from a simple postulate - no anti-Russian campaigns and votes and wholesale accusations against Russia will help find solutions to the conflict on the territory of Ukraine. The effect is the opposite - further escalation. Probably, the Thai side is partly guided by this approach. Most likely more and more countries that see what is happening in reality will follow suit," Tomikhin believes.
