Russia expects int’l community to give principled assessment of torture of Russia POWs

"We have more and more evidence that the Ukrainian side practices torture in violation of the 1949 Geneva Conventions," Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said on Wednesday

UNITED NATIONS, November 24. /TASS/. Russia expects the international community to give principled assessment of the torture of Russian prisoners of war practiced by Ukrainian militants, Russian Permanent Representative to the United Nations Vasily Nebenzya said on Wednesday.

"We have more and more evidence that the Ukrainian side practices torture in violation of the 1949 Geneva Conventions. DPR (Donetsk People’s Republic - TASS) soldiers released from captivity confirm that militants from the Right Sector (outlawed in Russia - TASS) ultra-nationalist armed group execute prisoners by hanging. Apart from that, LPR (Lugansk People’s Republic - TASS) investigators arrived at a conclusion that those killed has upper parts of their ears cut off and their legs shot through while they were still alive. Some Russian captives had to lay in pits covered with soil for five hours. The Russian Investigative Committee checks every such case, but we expect the international community and international human rights organizations to give principles assessment of Kiev’s non-compliance with its commitments under international humanitarian law," he said at a meeting of the UN Security Council on Ukraine.
