WASHINGTON, February 19. /TASS/. Russia is poised for negotiations with the United States on a wide range of strategic stability issues, including new military technology, in order to work out "a security equation," which would meet the present-day realities, Russia’s Ambassador to the US Anatoly Antonov said on Friday at an online session of the Council on Foreign Relations, a US nonprofit think tank.
"The Russian Side is ready to negotiate on a broader agenda. The essence of our proposals is to develop a security equation that would take into account the emergence of new military technologies and other factors affecting strategic stability," the diplomat stressed.
Antonov recalled that Moscow and Washington had extended the Treaty on Measures for the Further Reduction and Limitation of Strategic Offensive Arms (known as the New START Treaty).
New START actually remains "the only constraining instrument in the nuclear and missile sphere," he said.
"We hope that the preservation of this treaty will allow leaving behind the trend towards dismantling of arms control and nonproliferation mechanisms, so prevalent in recent years not due to our fault," the ambassador said.
