US to go bust if it keeps spending like ‘drunken sailor’ — Musk

"That does mean a lot of grifters will lose their grift and complain loudly about it," Musk continued

WASHINGTON, February 10. /TASS/. Elon Musk, who heads the newly created US Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE), says America needs to stop spending money "like a drunken sailor."

Commenting on a post by former US Secretary of the Treasury Lawrence Summers, Musk wrote: "Listen Larry, we need to stop government spending like a drunken sailor on fraud & waste or America is gonna go bankrupt."

"That does mean a lot of grifters will lose their grift and complain loudly about it," Musk continued. "Too bad. Deal with it."

In a letter published by The New York Times, Summers and four other former US Treasury secretaries expressed their concern over DOGE’s actions and its potential to wield "arbitrary and capricious political control" over the federal budget.

Shortly after Donald Trump’s inauguration on January 20, DOGE launched a large-scale audit of federal expenditures. In all, Musk expects to slash government spending by $2 trillion.
