Russian cargo ship sinks between Spain, Algeria — newspaper

MADRID, December 24. /TASS/. The Russian Ursa Major cargo ship sank in international waters between Spain’s Murcia autonomous community and Algeria, the El Espanol newspaper reported.

According to the newspaper, the shipwreck occurred after an explosion in the engine room. Fourteen crew members were rescued and taken to the Spanish port of Cartagena, while two remain missing.

The newspaper also said that the cargo ship left St. Petersburg about two weeks ago and headed for the port of Vladivostok, where it was scheduled to arrive on January 22.

The Ursa Major is a cargo ship built in 2009.
