Moscow police opens fire to detain man wanted by Interpol for murder in Ukraine

The man abandoned his vehicle in a residential building courtyard and attempted to flee

MOSCOW, March 11. /TASS/. An Azerbaijani national, wanted by Interpol for suspected murder in Ukraine and illegal possession of firearms in Russia, has been apprehended in Moscow, a source in the law enforcement told TASS Saturday.

"Traffic police inspectors at the Moscow Ring Road attempted to pull over a driver for paper inspection, but the driver ignored the policemen’s command and kept driving. A pursuit ensued; the man abandoned his vehicle in a residential building courtyard and attempted to flee. The policemen had to open fire to detain him," the source said.

According to the source, the detained person is Azerbaijani national Jabbar Yusifi, wanted by Interpol.

"The man is wanted in Russia for illegal possession of firearms, and he is wanted in Ukraine for intentional murder," the source said, adding that the man was carrying a handgun.

Jabbar Yusifi previously competed in the Azerbaijani Greco-Roman wrestling national team at the Youth Olympic Games, and won the Russian Pankration championship.
