Seoul stampede death toll climbs to 149 — rescue services

According to the representative of the rescue services of Seoul, two foreigners were among the victims of the incident

South Korean authorities confirmed that at least 149 people were killed and at least 76 were hospitalized in severe condition following a stampede in the Itaewon district in downtown Seoul during Halloween celebrations, an emergency services representative told a TV channel on Sunday.

According to him, two foreigners were killed and 15 were injured.

According to police estimates, about 100,000 people poured into a jam-packed narrow street in Itaewon on Saturday. The district, located near a US military base, is popular with young people as an area with numerous bars, restaurants and nightclubs.
