MOSCOW, November 18. /TASS/. The number of operating airports in Russia is going to increase to 241 in the next five years, with five expected to be added in historical regions, Transport Minister Andrey Nikitin said.
"By 2030, 241 airports should be operating in Russia," he told the Transport of Russia forum. This includes 225 existing airports, four new airfields in Arkhyz, Sheregesh, Omsk-Fyodorovka, and Irkutsk, five airports in historical regions, among them Mariupol, Donetsk, Lugansk, Zaporozhye, Kherson, and seven airfields temporarily closed to civil aviation.
At least 75 airfields need to be modernized in the next five years, Nikitin noted, adding that a significant portion of those facilities are planned to be built or reconstructed using public-private partnership mechanisms.
