TikTok lays off global staff as part of restructuring — Reuters

The layoffs began the same day for teams in Asia and Europe, Middle East and Africa, the agency reported

LONDON, February 20. /TASS/. The TikTok short video app has started laying off global staff at its trust and safety unit, which handles content moderation, as part of a restructuring, Reuters reported citing sources familiar with the matter.

Adam Presser, operations head of the app who also oversees the unit, sent a memo out to staff on February 20 notifying them of the move, sources said. The layoffs began the same day for teams in Asia and Europe, Middle East and Africa, the agency noted.

TikTok has 40,000 trust and safety professionals worldwide, Reuters said. Last October the company laid off hundreds of employees from its global workforce, including a large number in Malaysia, as it shifts focus towards a greater use of AI in content moderation.
