Western sanctions give Russia opportunity to build out domestic shipbuilding industry

Nikolay Patrushev noted that technological supply chains within the industry are being restored

MOSCOW, February 18. /TASS/. Western sanctions helped Russia build out its domestic shipbuilding industry, Presidential Aide and Chairman of the Russian Maritime Board Nikolay Patrushev said in an interview with the aif.ru news outlet.

"The economic sanctions introduced by the West certainly had a negative effect. Among other things, they led to the termination of supplies of modern machinery, tools, spare parts and components to Russia, and caused businesses who deal with repair and service maintenance to suspend operations. The Westerners, at the same time, unbeknownst to them, provided us with the opportunity to usher in a new era of industrialization," Patrushev said.

He noted that technological supply chains within the industry are being restored, and measures are being taken to significantly boost the production of competitive goods.
