Russia to promote Arctic tourism potential among foreigners — tour operators association

The Year of Arctic Tourism is a joint information project of ATOR and the Polar Travel Club tour operator

MOSCOW, February 5. /TASS/. The Association of Tour Operators of Russia (ATOR) and the Polar Travel Club plan to promote the Arctic's tourism potential in foreign markets under the Year of Arctic Tourism project, the Association's Executive Director Maya Lomidze told a news conference at TASS.

"Even to us, the Arctic is exotic. <...> As for foreign tourists, it's not just exotic, it's triple exotic. This is something a very small number of European countries may offer though anyway not in the form we have. Therefore, promotion in foreign markets is another direction we want to develop under the Year of Arctic Tourism project," she said.

The Year of Arctic Tourism is a joint information project of ATOR and the Polar Travel Club tour operator. It started in 2024 to promote tourism in the Russian Federation's Arctic Zone. Under the project, the association plans to present the tourism product and the specifics of its formation and promotion, the association's representative said. The project's result should be an increase in the number of visitors to the Arctic districts.

"We've decided to give each region a separate page, and on those pages we will present types of tours, existing problems in those regions, and, being an association with an active civic position, we are going to influence solution of these problems. <...> Additionally, we are going to conduct analytical research," she said.
