Russia and India need to use national currencies more often in trade — Putin

The Russian president noted that at the upcoming negotiations today with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the North-South corridor will also be discussed

MOSCOW, December 7. /TASS/. President Vladimir Putin stressed the importance of increasing settlements in national currencies between Russia and India.

"If we have trade turnover with China of about $200 billion this year, it would be right for us to increase it with India. The question is how to do this, what needs to be done? The first thing is to pay more attention to the development of logistics," Putin said at the VTB "Russia Calling!" Forum.

He noted that at the upcoming negotiations today with Iranian President Ebrahim Raisi, the North-South corridor will also be discussed.

"India is, of course, a beneficiary. India is interested in implementing routes of this kind," Putin said. Also, according to him, it is necessary to develop the Northern Sea Route.

"The second what we need to do is develop the financial infrastructure. We need to use national currencies more in mutual settlements, we need to ensure unconditional settlements so that there are no bottlenecks in settlements," Putin said.

"Based on these key things, we, of course, must pay more attention to investments, investment flows, and not just investments, but [investments] in specific projects, enterprises, and increase the volume of our cooperation," the head of state said.

According to him, there are enough areas of activity to implement such plans. This includes pharmaceuticals, agriculture, and industry. "We have something to work on. That’s what we will do," Putin concluded.
