Agreement on Russia’s participation in Turkish gas hub may be achieved soon – official

According to Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak, “agreements on the practical implementation of this project may be reached in the near future”

MOSCOW, November 25. /TASS/. A roadmap on Russia’s participation in the gas hub in Turkey is currently being negotiated, and concrete agreements may be achieved shortly, Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said in an interview for Rossiya-24.

"A roadmap is being negotiated right now; the Turkish delegation plans to come to St. Petersburg to examine Gazprom’s developments in this area, and I am certain that agreements on practical implementation of this project will be achieved in the nearest future," he said after the meeting of the inter-governmental commission on Russian-Turkish trade and economic cooperation.

In October, 2022, Russian President Vladimir Putin proposed an idea to create a gas hub in Turkey and redirect gas volumes from the detonated Nord Stream pipeline there. Turkish authorities claim that almost everything is ready for implementation of the gas hub project from the infrastructure standpoint, but certain amendments must be introduced in the legislation. The first legal decision were made in early April and involved the operation of Turkey’s Botas oil and gas company and a number of other suppliers.

On September 4, Vladimir Putin announced after the talks with his Turkish counterpart Recep Tayyip Erdogan that Gazprom provided Botas with a roadmap on implementation of the gas hub project. He noted that the appointment of the join working group was on agenda.
