Ghana shifting to payments in national currencies with Russia, mulling Mir cards

The Central Bank of Ghana is cooperating with the Central Bank of Russia and we plan to make trade payments in national currencies via a bank in China, President of Ghana-Russia Business Council Lawrence Awuku-Boateng told

MOSCOW, October 24. /TASS/. Ghana is shifting to using national currencies in trade with Russia and negotiating the introduction of Mir cards in the country, President of Ghana-Russia Business Council Lawrence Awuku-Boateng told TASS.

"The Central Bank of Ghana is cooperating with the Central Bank of Russia and we plan to make trade payments in national currencies via a bank in China. This makes the process much easier," he said on the sidelines of the Yalta International Forum.

Asked about using Mir cards in Ghana, the head of the business council said: "We have requested the Central Bank of Ghana to open this window for us, though we are negotiating so far."

The Yalta International Forum is running on October 23 and 24 in Moscow. TASS is the general information partner of the forum.
