MOSCOW, April 10. /TASS/. The GAZ automobile plant based in Nizhniy Novgorod, Russia, has filed a claim with the regional arbitration court against Volkswagen, according to the arbitration case files.
GAZ is demanding 28.4 bln rubles ($347.8 mln) from Volkswagen. The claim was filed on April 7 but no further details were given.
GAZ previously filed a separate claim with the arbitration court to invalidate the termination of an agreement on contracted vehicle assembly with Volkswagen and recover damages in the amount of over 15.5 bln rubles ($189.8 mln). The Russian plant alleged that the Volkswagen Group is planning to permanently withdraw from the Russian market by selling its remaining assets to third parties. The liquidation of Volkswagen’s remaining assets in Russia will render any court decision moot.
The court seized the assets of the German automaker in Russia on March 17 as a preventive measure. The seizure of Volkswagen’s real estate and equipment was lifted on April 3.
