ASTANA, November 28. /TASS/. Russian President Vladimir Putin’s state visit to Kazakhstan is a "historic event," Kazakh President Kassym-Jomart Tokayev said.

"I would like to extend my sincere appreciation to the president of the Russian Federation <…> for accepting my invitation to pay a state visit to Kazakhstan. Your state visit has become a truly historic event that marks an important chapter in the development of Kazakh-Russian relations," Tokayev said.

He described Russia as his country’s strategic partner and reliable ally.

The two nations have established a "meaningful and future-oriented relationship," the Kazakh leader added.

Putin arrived in Kazakhstan on a state visit on November 27. On November 28, the Russian president will take part in the CSTO summit in Astana. A joint statement adopted in the wake of the talks between the two presidents says that Putin invited Tokayev to pay a return visit to Russia next year. The Kazakh leader accepted the invitation, but the timeframes are yet to be agreed by the parties.
