MOSCOW, February 21. /TASS/. A number of sectors of the Russian economy have a chance to make a big leap similar to the one the country saw in agriculture, Russian President Vladimir Putin said in his State of the Nation Address to the Federal Assembly on Tuesday.
"I am convinced that we have every opportunity for a similar breakthrough in other areas," he said.
Putin noted that last year, Russia’s agricultural production showed double-digit growth rates, as farmers reaped a record harvest of more than 150 million tons of grain. According to him, by the end of the agricultural year, the country could export 55-60 million tons of grain.
The President recalled that some years ago, Russia used to harvest 60 million tons of grain per year, and now this is only the export potential of the country.
The head of state added that a number of basic civilian sectors of the economy showed significant growth last year. In particular, the volume of construction on housing projects exceeded 100 million square meters for the first time in Russia’s modern history.
