Humanitarian shipment for Malawi unloaded — Uralchem

The shipment to Malawi is a part of the group’s commitment to donating about 300,000 metric tons of mineral fertilizers to developing countries free of charge, the fertilizer producer said

MOSCOW, February 1. /TASS/. Uralchem has offloaded the humanitarian shipment of fertilizers for Malawi in a port in Mozambique and is ready to begin transporting it by land, the Russian fertilizer producer said on Wednesday.

"Uralchem-Uralkali announces that a shipment of 20,000 metric tons of NPK (nitrogen / phosphorus / potassium) fertilizer for Malawi has been fully offloaded in the Port of Beira (Mozambique) and is ready for final transit by land," the company said.

The delivery was carried out in close cooperation with the World Food Programme, which chartered a vessel to carry fertilizers from the Netherlands to Mozambique, Uralchem noted.

The shipment to Malawi is a part of the group’s commitment to donating about 300,000 metric tons of mineral fertilizers to developing countries free of charge, the fertilizer producer said.

"We believe that collective action is the most effective way of addressing the urgent food crisis in developing countries. Given that fertilizer use significantly increases food supply, we recognise its importance in alleviating food insecurity around the globe," Uralchem CEO Dmitry Konyaev said in a comment.
