Poland continues to buy Russian oil from Druzhba pipeline in January — Transneft

According to Transneft official representative Igor Dyomin, the company transported 500,000 metric tons of oil to Poland in January

MOSCOW, January 31. /TASS/. Poland continued to buy Russian oil from the Druzhba pipeline in January, while Germany refused to accept Russian oil this month, the official representative of Transneft Igor Dyomin told TASS.

According to him, the company transported 500,000 metric tons of oil to Poland in January via the Druzhba pipeline. "Today, in the first half of the day, we fulfilled the schedule for pumping 500,000 transporting of oil to Poland," he said, adding that Germany has not accepted Russian oil since the beginning of 2023.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said in an interview with TASS in late December 2022 that Germany and Poland had applied to receive oil via the Druzhba pipeline. "Even Germany and Poland, which announced that they would give up Russian oil, have applied for pumping for 2023," he said. He also added that the countries do not specify in their applications what oil they plan to receive, Russian or Kazakh oil.

Earlier, head of the Russian oil pipeline operator Transneft, Nikolay Tokarev, said on the Rossiya-24 TV channel that the company had received applications from Poland and Germany to pump oil for December and the first quarter of next year, despite reports of their unwillingness to continue deliveries. In response to Tokarev’s statement, the German Ministry of Economic Affairs and Climate Protection announced that the refineries in Schwedt and Leuna will no longer order oil from Russia next year, but applications have been submitted for pumping oil from Kazakhstan.

For its part, Transneft told TASS that Kazakhstan did not ask Transneft to pump its oil to Germany, and only Russia’s Energy Ministry is authorized to make a decision on transit.

Dyomin also told TASS that Transneft is ready to start transporting 20,000 metric tons of Kazakh oil via Druzhba to Germany in February - an agreement with Kazakhstan has been concluded.

"We have everything ready to transit these 20,000 tons of oil from Kazakhstan through Russia, Belarus, Poland to Germany along the northern branch of Druzhba. An agreement has been signed, route instructions have been prepared, and the necessary transit payments have even been made," he said.

Russian Deputy Prime Minister Alexander Novak said earlier that Russia is ready to support the Kazakhstan’s request for transit of its oil to Germany via the Druzhba oil pipeline.
