Austria’s dependence on Russian gas supplies down over 50% since February

Russian energy resources are being replaced by gas supplied from Norway, North Africa and Central Asia

VIENNA, November 21. /TASS/. The share of Russian gas in the Austrian market decreased from 79% in February to 21% in September of this year, the Ministry for Climate Action, Environment, Energy, Mobility, Innovation and Technology of Austria said in a statement on Monday.

"We have made a big step towards reducing our dependence on Russian gas. The final goal has not been reached yet as we will become truly free only when we are completely able to do without Russian gas. We are tirelessly addressing this every day," Minister Leonore Gewessler was quoted as saying.

Underground gas storage facilities are over 95% full, according to the ministry. Russian energy resources are being replaced by gas supplied from Norway, North Africa and Central Asia.
