World Economic Forum president says Ukraine needs new Marshall Plan

This work should be carried out even without a peace agreement, Borge Brende said

BERLIN, May 23./TASS/. President of the World Economic Forum Borge Brende believes that Ukraine’s recovery will require a large-scale program, while work on it should be started now.

"The country has already suffered enough. We must start working to rebuild it. We need a Marshall Plan for Ukraine. This is what we want to achieve in Davos," Borge Brende said in an interview with Sueddeutshe Zeitung published on the newspaper’s website on Sunday.

He believes this work should be carried out even without a peace agreement, it may involve the areas under the control of Ukraine. The president said that he was talking about infrastructure, electricity supply, schools, roads and bridges.

The World Economic Forum takes place in Davos from May 22 to May 26.

On February 24, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced a special military operation in response to a request for help by the heads of the Donbass republics. He stressed that Moscow had no plans of occupying Ukrainian territories, but aimed to demilitarize and denazify the country. That said, DPR and LPR launched their operation to liberate their territories, which are under Kiev's control.
