US unable to restrict Russia’s economic development, political influence — Medvedev

Dmitry Medvedev recalled that the US had approved $40 billion in aid to Kiev

MOSCOW, May 11. /TASS/. The United States will fail to restrict Russia’s economic development and its political influence in the world, the deputy chairman of Russia’s Security Council, Dmitry Medvedev, said on his Telegram channel on Wednesday.

He recalled that earlier the House of Representatives of the US Congress voted for a $40-billion package of aid to Ukraine. "President Joe Biden had been asking for less, but another two billion was lavishly thrown in," Medvedev said. He believes that "many in the US military-industrial complex" will be eager to have a share of this pie. Also, he predicts that this aid may be banally stolen "on both sides of the Atlantic."

It is nakedly clear, Medvedev said, that the reason for this unprecedented "aid" is not love for Ukraine or wish to support one’s own economy. He believes the purpose of this move is to "continue the proxy war against Russia and to try to inflict heavy losses on our country and restrict its economic development and political influence in the world."

"This will not work," Medvedev said. "It is far more likely that their money printing machine, which America uses to inflate its already enormous public debt, will go out of order," Medvedev said. He recalled fuel and food price hikes in the US, adding that for this "the Americans should thank their Russophobic authorities."

"As for the goals of Russia’s special operation to protect Donbass, they will be achieved," he concluded.

Biden earlier addressed the US Congress with a request for extra funding of aid to Ukraine. Originally, he asked for $33 billion. The Congress eventually increased the package of aid to nearly $40 billion. It was suggested to spend more on the supplies of miliary equipment and food aid.
