Trade turnover between Russia and North Korea reached $42.74 mln in 2020

North Korean exports to Russia fell by 76.5% to $714,000

SEOUL, February 19. /TASS/. The trade turnover between Russia and North Korea decreased last year by around 11% compared to 2019 amid the coronavirus pandemic, South Korean TV channel KBS announced on Friday citing data from the Russian customs service.

It was noted that the total trade between the two countries in 2020 amounted to $42.74 mln, which is 10.8% less than in the previous year.

North Korean exports to Russia fell by 76.5% to $714,000. North Korea supplied mainly musical instruments, plastic products, furniture, lighting fixtures, and cement ot Russia. Imports from Russia decreased by 6.3% to $42 mln. The main goods purchased by North Korea included cereals, fuels and lubricants, animal fats, and medical supplies.

In early 2020, North Korea closed its borders, thereby almost completely stopping foreign trade, out of fear that coronavirus could enter the country along with goods. According to the official data, not a single coronavirus case has been registered in North Korea.
