MOSCOW, February 26. /TASS/. The destruction of the first US-made Abrams tank near Avdeyevka has dispelled the myth of its invulnerability, the Rostec press office told TASS.
"Yet another myth has been colorfully dispelled, the miracle did not happen," Rostec said, commenting on the first confirmed destruction of an Abrams tank during the special military operation.
Previously, Kherson Region Governor Vladimir Saldo announced that troops of Russia’s 15th Motorized Infantry Brigade destroyed an Abrams tank in the Avdeyevka area. According to Saldo, the tank’s reactive armor failed to protect it: a reconnaissance drone detected the tank’s first combat mission, and the tank was subsequently destroyed.
In late September, 2023, The New York Times reported, citing two Pentagon representatives, that the first US-made Abrams tanks arrived in Ukraine. In mid-October, US military officials announced that the US shipped the entire batch of 31 Abrams tanks to Ukraine. However, these vehicles have not been spotted on the frontline since then. In early January this year, Forbes noted that Ukraine is unable to use the US-made M1 Abrams tanks on the frontline due to their vulnerability.
