Romanian military says Russian missile had not intruded into Romanian airspace

It is noted that the point of the missile’s flight path closest to the airspace of Romania was registered by radar systems about 35 kilometers northeast of the border

BUCHAREST, February 10. /TASS/. The Romanian Defense Ministry has said that its radars on Friday detected a Russian missile, but it was not in Romania’s airspace "for a single moment."

"The air surveillance system on February 10 detected an aerial target launched from the Black Sea from a Russian ship near the Crimean Peninsula - most likely a cruise missile, which crossed the airspace of Ukraine and the Republic of Moldova and re-entered Ukrainian airspace without staying a moment in Romanian airspace," the Romanian Defense Ministry said in a news release on Friday.

The point of the missile’s flight path closest to the airspace of Romania was registered by radar systems about 35 kilometers northeast of the border, the Defense Ministry said.

"At 10:38 (11:38 Moscow time) two MiG-21 fighter jets of the Romanian Air Force were sent to the northern zone of Romania in order to expand response capabilities. About two minutes later, the situation cleared up and both planes resumed their original mission," the Defense Ministry explained. "The Romanian Air Force, in cooperation with the allied forces, is constantly monitoring the national airspace and the adjacent zone.".
