LUGANSK, January 20. /TASS/. NATO countries are supplying Kiev mostly with obsolete weapons so that they can rearm their own armies, Andrey Marochko, a retired colonel of the Lugansk People’s Republic (LPR) said on Friday.
"Although obsolete, the weapons that are supplied to Kiev are quite dangerous and it is difficult to anticipate how they will operate in Donbass. Probably, they will be upgraded and modernized but, as experience shows, the West mainly sends junk, old stuff that was written off so that they can rearm their own armies at Ukraine’s expense," he said.
"I think that the weapons and hardware that are planned to be sent [to Ukraine] are meant for offensive actions as this list includes armored vehicles and tanks that are used during assault operations," he noted, adding that the UK’s and NATO’s military assistance will "seriously influence the developments" in the combat operations zone.
"I can state with absolute conviction that the Russian armed forces have a number of weapons and systems that are capable of counteracting all such weapons. There is not a single piece of equipment that cannot be hit by our anti-tank missiles and other systems. Russia's aerospace forces are hitting armored vehicles quite effectively as well," he stressed.
On Thursday, the British, Latvian, Lithuanian, and Polish defense ministers, as well as representatives from Denmark, the Czech Republic, the Netherlands, and Slovakia agreed on a new package of free military assistance to Ukraine. It will include tanks, heavy artillery, air defense systems, munitions and combat infantry carriers.
