Russian frigate carrying hypersonic weapons to enter service this year — Fleet commander

The frigate to become the first regular carrier of sea-launched hypersonic weapons

SEVEROMORSK, June 1. /TASS/. The frigate Admiral Golovko carrying hypersonic weapons will enter service with Russia’s Northern Fleet by the end of this year, Fleet Commander Admiral Alexander Moiseyev said on Wednesday.

"Pursuant to the plans of the state armament program, we expect to receive the third frigate of this Project [22350], the Admiral Golovko, before the end of this year," the commander said.

The frigate will be the first regular carrier of sea-launched hypersonic weapons, the admiral said.

The Admiral Golovko is the Project 22350 third-built and second serial-produced frigate. The Russian Northern Fleet currently operates two frigates of this Project: the Admiral Gorshkov and the Admiral Kasatonov. Frigates of this Project carry the Kalibr-NK cruise missile system as their basic strike weapon. The Admiral Gorshkov is involved in the tests of Tsirkon anti-ship hypersonic cruise missiles.
