Mariupol’s city territory completely mopped up - Russian Defense Ministry

A total of 1,464 Ukrainian service members surrender in the city

MOSCOW, April 16. /TASS/. Mariupol has been completely retaken from Azov militants, foreign mercenaries and Ukrainian troops, and the remaining part of the Ukrainian grouping is encircled on the premises of the Azovstal metallurgical plant, Russian Defense Ministry Spokesman Major-General Igor Konashenkov said on Saturday.

"The entire city territory of Mariupol has been fully mopped up of the militants of the Azov Nazi formation, foreign mercenaries and Ukrainian troops," he said.

According to the spokesman, the remaining part of the Ukrainian grouping has been fully encircled on the premises of the Azovstal iron and steel works.

"Their only chance to save their lives is to voluntarily lay down the arms and surrender," the general stressed.

A total of 1,464 Ukrainian service members surrender in Mariupol. Ukrainian grouping’s losses only in Mariupol amount to over 4,000 as of April 16.
