Russian Baltic Fleet kicks off drills with 20 combat ships and support vessels

The ships’ crews will also conduct qualification missile and artillery firings against various types of sea and air targets

KALININGRAD, April 7. /TASS/. About 20 Baltic Fleet combat ships and support vessels have deployed to the sea to accomplish assignments during scheduled drills, the Fleet’s press office reported on Tuesday.

"The planned tactical drills at combat training ranges in the Baltic Sea will practice the personnel’s skills in the exercise of assigned missions, assess the readiness of the Fleet’s forces for operations as part of tactical groups for anti-submarine warfare, air defense and mine countermeasures," the press office said in a statement.

The ships’ crews will also conduct qualification missile and artillery firings against various types of sea and air targets. During the drills, the sailors will practice measures amid radiation and chemical contamination and ship damage control, the statement says.

"Overall, up to 20 combat ships and boats and also support vessels of the Baltic Fleet have been involved in practicing missions at sea," the press office specified.
