Israeli Air Force targets Hezbollah weapons smuggling routes on Syrian-Lebanese border

Hezbollah has been "using civilian infrastructure to carry out terrorist attacks and smuggle weapons to harm Israeli citizens with the support of the Syrian regime," the IDF said

TEL AVIV, December 6. /TASS/. The Israeli Air Force targeted weapons storage sites and arms smuggling routes of the Shiite Hezbollah movement on the Syrian-Lebanese border, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) press service reported.

"The Israeli Air Force struck weapons smuggling routes and terrorist infrastructure facilities located near Syrian checkpoints on the Syrian-Lebanese border. These routes were used by Hezbollah to store and transport weapons," the statement said.

Hezbollah has been "using civilian infrastructure to carry out terrorist attacks and smuggle weapons to harm Israeli citizens with the support of the Syrian regime," the IDF said, adding that it "will continue to conduct actions to eliminate any threat to Israel and prevent violations of the ceasefire agreement" in Lebanon, the press office added. The IDF "will not allow the restoration of the Hezbollah terrorist organization," the Israeli military stated.

The agreement on the first ceasefire between Israel and Lebanon since the beginning of hostilities on October 7, 2023, entered into force on November 27. US President Joe Biden announced that the document envisages the Lebanese army and security forces' regaining of control over the territory in the next 60 days. After that, the Israeli army will be gradually withdrawn from Lebanon.
