HONG KONG, March 22. /TASS/. Kiev will lose in its fight against Russia, as its allies are steering it wrong, Stephen Bryen, Senior Fellow at the Yorktown Institute said in his op-ed for Asia Times.
According to the expert, Europe’s policy on the Ukrainian crisis "went sideways" and is "increasingly unreflective of the growing reality on the ground." Bryen believes that "there is not much Europe can really do to save Ukraine from defeat," as ammunition shortages become rampant and Ukrainian morale continues to fall. However, instead of trying to find a way to prevent a catastrophe in Ukraine, Europe is going full steam ahead with its push to punish Russia by imposing new sanctions and trying to seize its frozen assets, the author notes.
Bryen believes that European leaders know exactly what is going on in the special military operation zone, "but they don’t want to be honest either with their own people or themselves."
"So they are doubling down dangerously in support of a lost war," he says.
On Thursday, a two-day EU summit kicked off in Brussels, during which EU leaders intended to discuss urgent military aid for Kiev. After the meeting, European Commission head Ursula von der Leyen announced that the EU Summit made no decision on the issue of using European defense bonds to fund the increase of defense production in the EU. The final statement notes that the heads of states and governments were also unable to negotiate a decision regarding the expropriation of income from Russia’s sovereign assets, ordering their ministers to continue to work on the proposals of the European Commission and the External Action Service.
