Decision on Russian assets will probably not be made at EU summit due to Hungary — DW

The European Commission earlier approved a proposal to use the proceeds from Russian frozen assets to support Ukraine

BERLIN, March 21. /TASS/. The European Union is unlikely to come to an agreement on the use of proceeds from Russian frozen assets for the purchase of weapons for the Ukrainian armed forces at the summit on March 21-22 due to Hungary's position, the Deutsche Welle media group (recognized in Russia as a foreign media agent) reports, citing a source.

According to a senior European official, most of the member countries of the association advocate that these funds be used for weapons and ammunition. However, Hungary, according to the DW source, opposes this, stressing that income from assets should go "for anything but weapons."

The European Commission earlier approved a proposal to use the proceeds from Russian frozen assets to support Ukraine. Now it will be considered at the EU summit on March 21-22.

On March 20, the EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Josep Borrell reported that this proposal includes using 90% of the proceeds from frozen assets to purchase shells for Ukraine. Another 10% will go to the EU budget for further support of the Ukrainian military-industrial complex.
