Belarus’ Lukashenko heads to St. Petersburg to participate in EAEU and CIS summits

The EAEU summit agenda addresses more than two dozen separate issues, which, among other things, concern key areas for further development of integrative processes within the trade bloc, international activities, macroeconomic policies

MINSK, December 25. /TASS/. Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko has flown to St. Petersburg on a working visit to participate in the summits of the Eurasian Economic Union (EAEU) and the Commonwealth of Independent States (CIS), the Belarusian presidential press service reported.

"On December 25 in St. Petersburg, the head of state will take part in a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council. On December 26, Alexander Lukashenko will participate in an informal meeting of the CIS leaders," the message says.

The EAEU summit agenda addresses more than two dozen separate issues, which, among other things, concern key areas for further development of integrative processes within the trade bloc, international activities, macroeconomic policies, and efforts to eliminate barriers and reduce exemptions and restrictions within the internal EAEU market.

In May, at a meeting of the Supreme Eurasian Economic Council in Moscow, Lukashenko supported the initiative of the Russian chairmanship to determine the approaches to be applied in shaping a new strategy for the development of Eurasian integration through the year 2030, as well as through 2045.
