Israel complying with ceasefire in Gaza Strip — envoy to Russia

"If Hamas sticks to the hostage-release agreement, the ceasefire will continue," Alexander Ben Zvi added

MOSCOW, November 30. /TASS/. Israel has not committed any ceasefire violations in the Gaza Strip, the Jewish state's Ambassador to Russia Alexander Ben Zvi told the Rossiya-24 TV channel.

According to him, the reports that Israel allegedly opened fire in the Gaza Strip were untrue: "We are clearly adhering to the ceasefire, that is, the process to exchange hostages. So, this is absolutely false."

The ambassador confirmed that the ceasefire had been extended on November 30. He said Hamas came close to putting an end to the humanitarian pause the night before. "If Hamas sticks to the hostage-release agreement, the ceasefire will continue. The moment they violate the agreement, it (the humanitarian pause - TASS) will certainly end immediately. It was close to that last night as they dragged out giving the lists [of hostages to be released] until the last moment. If they release our hostages, the ceasefire will continue," he said.

Earlier on Thursday, the Israel Defense Forces (IDF) announced the extension of the Gaza ceasefire less than 20 minutes before the expiration of a truce agreement with Hamas.

Hamas announced on November 22 that an agreement on a four-day humanitarian ceasefire in the Gaza Strip had been reached through the mediation of Qatar and Egypt. The ceasefire took effect at 7:00 a.m. local time (5:00 a.m. GMT) on November 24. The agreement stipulates the release of women and teenagers under the age of 19 who are held in Gaza in exchange for the release of women and teenagers under the age of 19 from Israeli prisons. On November 27, the parties agreed to extend the ceasefire for another two days on the same terms, with three Palestinian prisoners released in exchange for every Israeli hostage freed from captivity. The agreement was supposed to expire at 7:00 a.m. local time on Thursday.
